Because our home was built in 1959 we had sturdy 3/4″ plywood cabinets and didn’t want to change the footprint, but the site-built wood left a lot to be desired. We always wanted hickory, but couldn’t justify the cost of a complete tear-out remodel in our neighborhood. We studied up on refacing and received three bids. Rick came out to see us armed with samples, references, a book of before/after photos, and a lot of great ideas. We met with two other contractors after Rick. Neither of the other contractors had samples with them, or even photos. When we mentioned that there were some modifications we’d like made to existing cabinets the other contractors didn’t think it could be done. Rick took one look at the area and not only said it could be done, but then offered his own ideas to make it even better! When it came down to pricing, we were almost worried that Rick would be more expensive, but not only was his price the most competitive, he seemed the most knowledgeable and the most prepared overall. Rick was on time every day and was respectful of our home and our dogs. I work from home and was able to chat with Rick on my breaks and lunches, and it was fun to watch the process.
The transformation was amazing. We had granite countertops installed while our cabinets were being refaced, and Rick was able to help us remove the old countertop and prepare the new cabinetry he was building for the countertops as well. The quality of the work is beyond our hopes. We had a plumbing issue with our new faucet/sink setup and had to have a plumber out right after Rick finished. When the plumber was under the sink he saw that it wasn’t the same wood as outside and asked. We told him they had just been refaced. He was very impressed with the quality of the work, kept running his hands over the corners, telling us that he works on houses on Mercer Island that don’t have cabinets that look as high end as ours do! All in all Rick went above and beyond. He didn’t just reface our existing cabinets, he demo’d an old overhanging cabinet that obscured the view to the dining room and built us a new wall cabinet, and built us a new buffet cabinet under our garden window for extra storage and counter space. We couldn’t be happier, and will definitely use Rick again and recommend him to anyone who asks.. in fact, the plumber has his number now too. 🙂
